Note to Tibetan Youth Congress Official Statement on Dorjee Shugden released on May 23, 2014
In the past few months, activities to disrupt the unity and harmony of Tibetans from Dorjee Shugden groups have rapidly increased. They have been organizing carefully orchestrated protests at various cities across the world where His Holiness the Dalai Lama has been engaged in Public events and talks. The slogans used by members of the group are despicable and have no truth whatsoever. Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) in its Statement released on May 23, 2014 condemned these activities by the Dorjee Shugden group.
Lately the group has been targeting TYC and is trying to tarnish the reputation of the largest Tibetan NGO in exile. They have set up Dorjee Shugden Tibetan Youth Congress page on social media sites Facebook and Youtube. False allegations and anti Dalai Lama activities, comments and videos are released through these sites. TYC would like to make it clear that we have no relations with the Dorjee Shugden group so called ‘Dorjee Shugden Tibetan Youth Congress’ and are not associated with these sites. We ask the group to stop using the name of our organization to further their propaganda. TYC will formally launch a complaint with the social media sites and ask that they be taken down immediately.
Formed in 1970, TYC remains the most politically active organization in exile working for the freedom of the Tibetan people. The Chinese government has time and again charged TYC with baseless allegations and has accused TYC of inciting violent riots and the self-immolations inside Tibet. TYC has always maintained that those accusations hold no truth and the organization continues to adhere to the principles of non-violence in order to achieve our goals. It is clear that both the Chinese government and the Dorjee Shugden group are working towards creating conflict amongst Tibetans. But they will not win.
The Tibetan people are bonded by our faith and trust in our spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama and we will not be divided by such futile efforts. We are more than just a cause. We are a people whose resilience should not be taken for granted and today with the courage and spirit of Tibetans inside Tibet, the Tibetans in exile and in Tibet remain more united than ever. Tibetan Youth Congress reminds all Tibetans to remain vigilant, attentive and cautious during visits of HH the Dalai Lama to your cities and we urge you to step up security and also partake in educational awareness raising campaigns regarding this issue.

TYC PRESIDENT CONCLUDES EUROPE TOUR
Democracy in Exile: Challenges facing the Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) and the Tibetan Freedom Struggle, was the topic of the speaking tour that TYC President Tenzing Jigme just concluded in Europe. Covering five nations in about two weeks, Jigme spoke to the youth and members of the Tibetan communities in London, Switzerland, Belgium, France and Spain. He also met with representatives and Parliament members of United Kingdom, France and Spain during this visit. The aim of this trip was firstly to hear thoughts, concerns and suggestions for TYC and the Tibetan movement from Tibetans living in Europe and; secondly, to meet with Tibetan Youth Congress regional chapters and their members; and thirdly, to lobby Tibet supporters and leaders of different countries for their support towards our cause.
President Jigme also attended the Tibet Support Group (TSG) meeting in London organized by International Tibet Network. TYC acknowledges the great activities TSG’s perform for our cause and hopes to see that continue in the future.
In London, an informal discussion/talk was organized by the Tibetan Association of UK at a local Tibetan owned establishment known as Kailash Momo restaurant. The event in Switzerland was organized by Tibetan Youth Association of Europe, while the talks in Belgium and France was organized by the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress chapters in the two regions. The Tibetan Community Association of Spain organized the event in Barcelona along with the support of Casa del Tibet Foundation. Successful meetings with Members of Parliaments were also held, namely, with Mr. Fabian Hamilton MP Labor Party UK, Mr Andre Gattoloni MP France, Spanish Senator Mr. Josep Maldonado and Greek Consulate General Fernando Turro. In these meetings, Jigme addressed about the current situation inside Tibet and urged the honorable MPs to do everything they could in their capacities to resolve the issue of Tibet. The leaders also appreciated the work TYC has been doing for Tibet over the years and wished TYC all the best in future campaigns.
On this tour, TYC President spoke about the challenges facing Tibetan Youth Congress, the aims and objectives of the organization and the importance of keeping the struggle for independence alive. He also touched upon the importance of understanding that we are a young democracy and our politics is new. With that in mind, it is important to respect each other’s views and have room for healthy debates. Question and Answer sessions were allotted after every talk where members of the community asked questions on various topics ranging from TYC’s stance for Independence, to questions regarding the direction of our movement. “The talks were very well received by the audiences and I hope most people now understand the reasons and the need for us to continue our struggle for the freedom and independence for the Tibetan people while respecting contrasting views,” said TYC President Tenzing Jigme. Donations were also made to TYC and TYC truly appreciates all those that made contributions to the organization so that we can continue to our efforts for Tibet until Tibet is free.

15th Annual Tibetan Youth Leadership Training Program
TYC Announces 15th Annual Tibetan Youth Leadership Training Program 2014
Dharamsala, Oct 29 – Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC), the largest Tibetan NGO in exile announces its 15th Annual Tibetan Youth Leadership Program. TYC serves as a valuable training ground for the future leaders of the Tibetan people. With eighty-eight regional chapters and over thirty five thousand members worldwide, TYC is able to reach a majority of exile Tibetan communities providing civil education for the public at large and conduct leadership training for Tibetan youth and adults. Tibetan Youth Congress has been one of the most important resources for educating Tibetans about democratic systems and Youth Leadership.
The Youth Leadership Training program is a regular feature of Tibetan Youth Congress. TYC has been organizing Youth Leadership Training program for the past 14 years. Last year, the Tibetan Youth Leadership Training Program was held in Bangalore with over 60 participants in attendance. This year more than 100 college students from India, Nepal and Bhutan are expected to participate in this training. The majority of the participants will be from various regional TYC chapters and major universities/ colleges in India. “The youth of today are the future of tomorrow and so it is important for us to train our youth so that they become better leaders and make our movement stronger”, says TYC Vice President Tamdin Hrichoe.
The aim of this training is to empower our Tibetan youth with leadership skills and experiences for the future of Tibet and the Tibetan people. Some of the workshops facilitated at this years training will be on, “How be become an effective leader”, “Power of Social Media”, “Democracy in Exile” and “Role and Responsibility of Youth in our movement”. This year’s training program will be held in Rohini Tibetan Youth Hostel from 23rd to 27th December 2014. Deadline to register for the conference is Nov 20.

Statement on the 45th founding anniversary of Tibetan Youth Congress
On the auspicious occasion of the 45th founding anniversary of Tibetan Youth Congress, on behalf of 35,000 active members of Tibetan Youth Congress, the 15th Central Executive Committee would like to pay our deepest respects to our spiritual leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama and express our solidarity with all those courageous brothers and sisters who have sacrificed their lives for the cause of Tibet and the Tibetan people for the past 65 years. On this special occasion, we would also like to extend our heartiest greetings to all our Tibetan brothers and sisters living inside Tibet and in the exile diaspora.
Tibetan Youth Congress was founded on October 7, 1970 by young Tibetans in exile as a resistance movement to challenge China’s occupation of Tibet with a pledge to regain the independence of Tibet. Under the guidance of His Holiness the Dalai Lama who had thrice graced Tibetan Youth Congress meetings, including the inaugural ceremony, for the past 45 years Tibetan Youth Congress has earnestly tried to contribute towards the cause of Tibet by organizing numerous campaigns in various countries to regain the independence of Tibet, keep alive the Tibetan identity by preserving and protecting our unique language and cultural heritage, and raise awareness on the issue of Tibet on the international platform.
We have been able to achieve this with the kind guidance of His Holiness, the unflinching trust and support extended by the Tibetan people, courageous sacrifices made by our brothers and sisters, and the tireless work done by past members as well as executive members of both the regional chapters and the Central Executive Committees.
Recently, for two days beginning August 12, the propaganda arm of the Chinese government, the Information Office of the State Council and the regional government of Tibet Autonomous Region jointly organized a symposium titled ‘2014 Forum on Development of Tibet’ to discuss development strategies. Around 100 delegates from more than 30 countries were roped in to attend the forum, which was on surface meant to discuss the future development of the region including preservation of Tibetan culture and environmental protection, but it was actually a publicity stunt by the Chinese government to showcase to the international community that Tibetan people inside Tibet are living a “happy life”, by showering praise on its self-acclaimed achievements in raising economic and health condition of the Tibetan people and protecting the Tibetan environment.
In reality, for the past 55 years since China occupied the land of snow by force, there has not been any positive change in the critical condition of the Tibetan people under the oppressive Chinese regime. In order to destroy the Tibetan language, religion and cultural traditions that form the basis of the unique Tibetan identity, it has implemented destructive policies such as the migration of Han Chinese into Tibet. Its abuse of basic human rights of the Tibetan people by denying Tibetans their freedom of religion, freedom of expression, freedom of movement and destruction of the fragile Tibetan environment through rampant mining activities and deforestation have been covered in detail in reports published by international environment and human rights groups.
Not only basic human rights are denied to the Tibetan people, even those Tibetans who appeal to the Chinese government to protect the environment are arrested, beaten and even killed under various trumped-up political charges. For instance, on August 12, 2014 Chinese paramilitary forces fired live ammunition into a crowd of Tibetans in Dege region in traditional Kham Province of Tibet, reaffirming China’s continued brutal repression in Tibet. Tibetans inside Tibet have also challenged Chinese government’s repressive rule through various forms of protest. Especially, since 2009 more than 130 Tibetans have self-immolated in protest against China’s repressive policies in Tibet. Since the root cause of these fiery protests lie in Chinese government’s repressive policies, it does not permit independent journalists and researchers to investigate the real situation inside Tibet.
For more than a year since Xi Jinping became president of China, Chinese government has carried out a so called fight against corruption; however it is not meant to advance human rights, democracy and freedom in China. In reality it is a strategy to consolidate the organization and power of the communist party of China which is at the brink of disintegration and to revitalize Chinese people’s hope and trust in the party. On the contrary, since Xi Jinping became president there has not been any improvement on human rights in China, particularly in Tibet where repression has increased since he became president of China.
Therefore, as the saying goes, “hope for the best and prepare for the worst”, we should also leave no stone unturned to prepare and struggle for the cause of Tibet rather than hope for someone else to solve the issue of Tibet. As Tibetans inside Tibet continue to show immense courage and unity in challenging Chinese rule in Tibet, time has come for exile Tibetans in various countries to take this opportunity to strengthen our efforts for the cause of Tibet.
By luring few uninformed Tibetans with wealth, Chinese government has been trying to sabotage the unity and harmony within the Tibetan community. When His Holiness visits foreign countries, a small group of Dholgyal propitiators have been trying to denigrate His Holiness by making baseless allegations. By hyphenating the Dorje Shugden cult with Tibetan Youth Congress, they have also made attempts to disgrace and dishonor the reputation of Tibetan Youth Congress, which clearly shows that the Chinese government is trying every possible way to disrupt the unity of the Tibetan people. We request all Tibetans, young and old alike, to be careful and wary of such developments that attempt to hinder the Tibetan freedom movement.
On this occasion of the 45th founding anniversary of the Tibetan Youth Congress, we would like to urge all Tibetan youth to participate in protests and campaigns to intensify the Tibetan movement and make it more effective on the global stage. Tibetan Youth Congress will continue to struggle for the independence of Tibet as per the aims and objectives of the organization.
Finally, we pray for the long and healthy life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and a prompt resolution to the issue of Tibet.
