WORLD WIDE CHAIN PROTEST CAMPAIGN

The Central Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC), headquartered in Dharamshala, officially launched a worldwide chain protest campaign on 19 July 2026 in solidarity with the Tibetan people and in remembrance of Tibetan martyr Pawo Lobga Rangzen. Beginning on this date, the campaign has continued in phases, with Tibetans and supporters of Tibet organizing protests, demonstrations, and solidarity activities across different regions and countries on subsequent dates.

Through this global campaign, the TYC calls upon the Secretary-General of the United Nations to acknowledge and respond to the ultimate sacrifice of Pawo Lobga Rangzen, who self-immolated in front of the United Nations Headquarters in a final appeal for justice and freedom for Tibet.

In India: The Central Tibetan Youth Congress (CTYC) initiated a chain hunger-strike protest, marking the first phase of the worldwide campaign. Subsequently, Regional Tibetan Youth Congress (RTYC) chapters across India organized protests and solidarity activities. In Regional Tibetan Youth Congress Kalimpong, women and men shaved their heads as a gesture of mourning and respect for Pawo Lobga Rangzen, followed by similar expressions of solidarity among members of the Tibetan public in Dharamshala.

On 22 August 2026, the TYC Global Chain Campaign continued in Ludhiana, where nearly 500 Tibetans from across India, including the Central Tibetan Youth Congress executive members, and members of RTYC Paonta Sahib, joined a peaceful “Chalo Ludhiana” protest march organized by RTYC Bhandara. Marching from 3 Division Chowk to Sundar Nagar Chowk, participants raised awareness about Martyr Lobga Rangzen and the ongoing situation in Tibet. Local LALA (merchant) members also joined the campaign, demonstrating solidarity with the Tibetan people. The protesters condemned China’s so-called “Ethnic Unity Law” as a “Black Law” and called for its immediate repeal, reaffirming their commitment to justice, freedom, and peace for Tibet.

In Abroad: Following the launch of the worldwide campaign, Regional Tibetan Youth Congress chapters in various countries, including France, New York & New Jersey, Minnesota, Toronto and many others, organized protests and solidarity activities on different dates. The Central TYC President travelled from India to participate in and oversee campaign activities abroad. In New York City, Central Tibetan Youth Congress, together with RTYC New York & New Jersey, organized two major demonstrations. On 2 August 2026, more than 700 participants joined a Coffin March from Jackson Heights to the United Nations Headquarters to honor Tibetan martyrs and call for international action on Tibet. On 6 August 2026, over 300 Tibetans participated in the “Flames of Aspiration” demonstration, paying tribute to Tibetan self-immolators and reaffirming their commitment to Tibet’s freedom, justice, and independence. Both demonstrations urged the United Nations and the international community to address the ongoing human rights crisis in Tibet.

The TYC also unequivocally rejects China’s so-called Ethnic Unity and Progress Law, which, according to the organization, threatens the distinct identity, language, culture, and national existence of the Tibetan people under the guise of ethnic unity.

The Tibetan Youth Congress remains committed to sustaining the worldwide chain protest campaign through continued actions across different regions until the United Nations responds to the sacrifice of Pawo Lobga Rangzen and addresses the concerns and aspirations of the Tibetan people. The campaign reaffirms the Tibetan people’s determination to pursue freedom, justice, and independence through collective action and international solidarity.
