New Delhi: 10th March 2010 -Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) today commemorated the Tibetan National Uprising Day with a peaceful protest in front of the United Nations office in the Indian capital of New Delhi. Followed by national and International media, the protesters marched from Khan Market to the UN office with slogans demanding justice to the Tibetan people. The protesters demanded the United Nations to intervene and pressure the Chinese Government to stop the continuing brutal oppression of the Tibetan people inside Tibet.
At the UN office, the protesters continued chanting slogans and demanded to be heard by the United Nations. Tsewang Rigzin, President of Tibetan Youth Congress was then escorted by police and UN Security staff inside the UN Office and met with Mr. Rajiv Chandran, National Information officer of the UN office in New Delhi. He submitted a memorandum addressed to the Secretary General of UN in New York on behalf of Tibetan Youth Congress and also urged the United Nations for concrete support and to revive the resolutions passed by the United Nations on Tibet. He further updated them about the current dire situation inside Tibet due to various campaigns including the recently re-launched 'Strike Hard' campaign by China. He was promised that the memorandum will be sent to the UN General Secretary in New York the same day.
Earlier in the day, hundreds of Tibetans took part in a protest rally from Ram Lila ground to Jantar Mantar in the heart of the capital. The rally was organized by local groups including the regional chapters of Samyeling and Rohini. At the conclusion of the rally, among others, TYC President read the official statement of TYC in Tibetan and English. This protest rally saw people of all ages including a group of primary school children of Samyeling Day school.
